I just learned about this. I've never been to a Stitch 'n Bitch, but the Women's Center just advertised one. I forwarded the information to them just in case.
Apparently the Sew Fast, Sew Easy store has an issue with people using the "Stitch 'n Bitch" title to describe anything other than their "Stitch 'n Bitch Café" forum, especially online groups (Yahoo! Groups, for example).
Honestly, this would have passed under my radar rather quickly under normal circumstances. I don't pretend to know how trademarks work, although I still think it's a stupid concept to claim trademark of something that has been around much longer than your store. What really got to me was the store's reaction to a book author who used the phrase in a title of her book... a poorly-written open letter which resorted to childish name-calling ("Ms. Stole-It?") and nasty accusations of theft outside the use of Stitch 'n Bitch in the title. Wow. Somebody needs to grow up. Did he really think that letter was going to generate good publicity?
